Holes Movie And Book Review
An author called ‘Louis Sachar,’ has written a fantastic, unique novel called ‘Holes.’
It is about a boy called ‘Stanley Yelnats,’ who goes to Camp Green Lake, for supposedly stealing a pair of sneakers, which belonged to Clive Livingston, a famous baseball player.
The sneakers were supposed to have been auctioned at a homeless shelter for misfortunate children.
According to Stanley, they just fell from the sky, and landed infront of his eyes, like a miracle.
So Stanley goes to Camp Green Lake, and has to dig one hole that is the length and width of his shovel.
Once he’s dug his hole, he has the rest of the day off.
He makes friends with a lot of the boys, including Zero, who doesn’t really talk at all, and is considered to be dumb.
Then one day he disappears, and Stanley finds him.
They both make it to big thumb, where Stanley’s No-Good-Dirty-Rotten-Pig-Stealing-Great-Great-Grandfather used to take his pig to sing a song to it, and let it drink from the stream.
The reason why Stanley’s great-great-grandfather did this was because he wanted to marry Myra Menke, but there was also another man who wanted to marry her as well.
Myras Menke’s father said that whoever has the fattest pig, will get to marry his daughter.
So Stanley’s great-great-grandfather went to speak to a fortune teller called Madame Zeroni.
She said that he could have the smallest pig, and take it to Big Thumb to sing to it and let it drink from the stream.
Each day it would get bigger, and he would get stronger.
Madame Zeroni said one thing, which was after he has finished with the pig, he must carry her up to Big Thumb and sing to her while she drinks from the stream.
If he failed to do this, she promised to curse him and his desendants fro all eternity.
When the day came for who as to marry Myra Menke, it ended up being that both of the pigs weighed the same, so Myra Menke was left to choose.
She couldn’t decide so she thought of a number between one and ten.
Whoever guessed it, got to marry her.
Stanley’s-great-great-grandfather was devastated that she couldn’t decide, so he let her marry the other man.
He moved to America, and one day remembered his promise to Madame Zeroni.
It was too late, he thought to go back.
One day Zero told Stanley his real name.
He said it was ‘Hector Zeroni.’
On the day that they both made it to Big Thumb, Zero was very weak, so Stanley had to carry him.
Once they reached it, they broke the curse.
Zero was Madame Zeroni’s Great-Great-Grandchild, and Stanley was Stanley’s (his Great-Great-Grandfather’s) Grandchild.
They both made it back to Camp Green Lake, and were released from Camp Green Lake.
The camp closed down, and Zero met his mum, who he hadn’t seen since he was little.
Now about the sneakers.
When Zero was young, he was very poor and had no money.
One day he saw the sneakers in a homeless shelter.
When no one was watching, he stole them.
Next minute the Police were onto him, so he threw them over a high wall.
At that moment Stanley was walking, and the sneakers landed infront of him.
And that’s how it all happened, and why Zero ended up at Camp Green Lake.
So it was all Stanley’s No-Good-Dirty-Rotten-Pig-Stealing-Great-Great-Grandfather’s fault, that Stanley had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The storyline was the same in both the movie and Story.
It was only a few things that were different:
Stanley was thin in the movie, whereas he was fat in the book.
The reason why I think they made him thin in the movie, was because in the book, Louis Sachar mentions how Stanley gets thinner and thinner with each hole he digs.
Well in the movie, they couldn’t make a fat person loose a lot of weight in just the amount of time it took to make the movie.
It would take moths of training, and would wear the poor boy out!!!
They showed how ‘Barf Bag,’ one of the campers died, by intentionally being bitten by a yellowspotted lizard (I think), at the start of the movie.
But in the book, One of the staff members tells Stanley about it.
And one more of the differences that I can remember is that in the movie they showed Zero meeting his mum, but at the end of the book, it says that Zero is with a lady in an armchair, and you have to guess who it is.
I think that it is an excellent movie and book.
Louis Sachar has a unique mind for storywriting!!!
One of my favourite scenes in the movie was where Zero meets his mother.
Zero was sooooo CUTE in that movie!!!
I give the movie
* * * * stars, because I liked the scenery, they did a really good job at that, the actors were realistic, and they stuck to the book, as close as possible.
and I give the book
* * * * * stars, because I liked the way Louis Sachar wrote the book, the ideas were great, and how all the parts of the pass and present came together at the end.
If you get a chance, see the movie, and read the book.
It’s a GREAT READ!!!
On the holidays before the start of school began, I started reading the book, and I couldn’t put it down!
It was the best of all my school novels!!!

Musicmonkey’s Latest Goss!!!
Hey everyone,
I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself, and what’s been happening!
I got a haircut on saturday by my mother, cause she’s a really cool hairdresser!
It was below my shoulders before, and was getting on my nerves, because every morning when I washed my hair it took ages to comb all of the knots out. And when I was at school it always used to tangle up!
But i’m happy now because it’s at a good length that is easy to manage.
One of my really great friends is in Queensland at the moment, and is there for 2 weeks!!!
I’d like to go to Queensland sometime cause i’ve never been there before, or out of my state.
When i’m older I plan to travel places.
Next weekend i’m going to Jamieson for a little holiday with my family.
In another post of mine, I explained my last trip to Jamieson, and some history of who lives there.
We’re meeting up with them again, and are going to be performing with them at the Jamieson Pub for a Sunday lunch.
I love performing there because it gives me an opportunity to let people hear my own music.
The holidays are coming up soon, and it’s really scary
I can’t believe how fast the year has gone in!!!!
I’ll be in the next year level before long!!!
On the holidays I want to go shopping with one of my great friends
Maybe go to the movies, have lunch somewhere, and just shop!!!
Last holidays I saw ‘Just My Luck!’
It was a really great film, and plus I think Lindsey Lohan is a great actress, I also liked her in ‘Herbie.’
You know when I went to see that film, like ages ago!!!, I wasn’t sure whether i’d like it, cause when I saw a bit of the old version, it bored me, but when I saw that latest one, I really enjoyed it!!!
It was cool how that dude and Lindsey kiss at the end.
TRUE ROMANCE!!!

How to deal with a crush!
Now we all know that at some stage we are going to have a crush on someone.
The trouble is, knowing how to deal with it.
You may have visited lots of websites, or maybe even read lots of magazines to gather advice, but this is my advice!!!!
1. Try talking to the person, you know just casual talk.
Maybe say something like ‘Hi how was your weekend,’ or ‘How’s it going?’
Then you may find yourself having your very first conversation (finally).
Friendship is the best starting point.
If you’re too nervous for that, chat to their friends, and then they may join into the conversation.
2. Try and find out what they do, like for example: basketball, play in a band, work at a supermarket etc.
Then maybe you could try out for those things yourself, but only if you like doing those things, and you are good at it!!
Don’t try out for football, if you can’t play, you’ll just look like a fool!!!
They’re good ways of getting to know your crush.
3. Come out straight and ask the person if they would like to do something, sometime.
Like go to the movies.
If you’re too shy to just go with them and no one else, then maybe invite some of your friends, and tell your crush that they can invite some of their friends.
That way you’re not on your own!!!
If they says yes, and the event goes down well, then maybe next time you can offer them to the same place, or a different place, just by themselves.
But if they say no, don’t stress out!!!
Just remember that there’s someone out there for you
You just haven’t found them yet!!!!
